Case Study: Research & Content Creation–Teacher Resources

Project Overview

Client

Manhattan Strategy Group

Project

Advancing Career Pathways was a project for the US Department of Education (5-year contract canceled after 2 years due to USDE leadership priority changes).

Scope

Produce resources for career and technical education teachers and administrators

Project Brief

The target audience was career and technical education administrators and teachers across the US. The USDE commissioned Manhattan Strategy Group to produce a playbook, toolbox, guide book, data dashboard, and curriculum guides, all based on academic research and data.

Problem

CTE administrators and teachers needed research-based information for building even more robust student programs in a rapidly evolving environment.

My Role

As a former CTE state director, I served as a consultant and subject matter expert for the target audience. As a long-time editor, I also edited all written materials.

  • Write a project style guide and quick reference sheet aligned with USDE guidelines
  • Ensure all deliverables were approachable and accessible and spoke to the target audience, translating complex academic text into approachable language
  • Enhance presentation materials
  • Edit all reports and deliverables
  • Moderate regional stakeholder conferences

Process

I served as the voice of the CTE administrators and teachers who would use the materials the project produced, providing perspective and direction.

I supplied and gathered information during onsite and virtual meetings with a distributed team of consultants who were primarily academic researchers.

I synthesized and translated the academics’ highly technical research into practical tools that school districts could apply to build their CTE programs and improve student outcomes.
